Resources

Power markets can be difficult to learn because they are such a vast, interdisciplinary subject and it is tough to know where to start. Here, I’ve highlighted some important websites, blogs, books, and other resources I’ve used to study the different facets of power markets.

The first thing I’d recommend doing is reading Chapter 2 (“Wholesale Power Markets”) of the FERC energy primer below. Chapter 1 (“Wholesale Natural Gas Markets”) is also very useful to read, as natural gas is used heavily for power generation. The other chapters on crude oil, physical vs financial trading, and market manipulation, while still useful, are less relevant to this blog than the chapters on electricity and natural gas.
